May 19, 1919, is the joyous day when Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, starting from Samsun, illuminated all of Anatolia and achieved liberation.
May 19th is a gift from our Atatürk to Turkish youth. Indeed, Atatürk expressed his trust in the youth in his "Address to the Youth," leaving them such a proud, faithful, and joyful holiday.
As can be understood from the first lines of Atatürk's Address to the Youth:
O Turkish Youth!
Your first duty is to forever preserve and defend Turkish independence and the Turkish Republic.
Youth means the future. The Turkish Republic and Turkish independence are entrusted to the youth.
